Location

  • We fell in love with Villa Martinelli, and we know you will too! It was originally built as the private retreat of Giovanni Martinelli, one of the most celebrated opera tenors of the early 20th century and a legendary host whose dinner guests included Albert Einstein. This beautifully restored Liberty-style estate is set on 30 acres of Italian gardens in the hills outside Bergamo, and has been welcoming extraordinary gatherings for over a hundred years.

Run of Show

  • 3:00pm: Please plan to arrive by 3:00.

  • 3:30pm: The ceremony begins at 3:30. While it won't be held in a church, it will be a full Catholic ceremony, so expect about 45 minutes to an hour. Don't worry, our priest is very cool. 😎

  • 4:30pm: After the ceremony, we'll move to the garden for aperitivo. If you're not familiar with the concept: think of it as Italian cocktail hour with a buffet of bites, spritzes, wine, and live music. Hot tip: pace yourself. This is not dinner. 😉

  • 7:00pm: We'll move inside for a 3-course dinner, more wine, speeches, and maybe a few surprises.

  • 9:00pm: We'll head outside for cake cutting and dessert.

  • 10:00pm: Then we dance! Villa Martinelli is secluded enough that noise restrictions aren't an issue, so the party can go as late as we want, but we're betting we can last until 2:00am.

Parking

There is ample, secure parking at Villa Martinelli.

Shuttles

Please indicate on your RSVP if you'll need transportation to/from the wedding. We'll be arranging shuttles from a central location in Bergamo (hopefully one stop in Città Bassa and one stop in Citta Alta).

Weather

Early October is anyone's best guess. It won't be too hot and will hopefully be warm and sunny enough to be outside. However, there's a 40–50% chance it will be raining; in this case, we have a contingency plan in place with the venue to move the party entirely inside.

Can I bring a date?

Only if your invitation or RSVP link specifically lists another person, or if you've spoken with us directly about it.

Are kids welcome?

We'll leave that one up to the parents. 😉

To help our traveling guests, we'll have an on-site babysitter during the aperitivo and dinner.

During the aperitivo, they'll keep kids entertained with activities and outdoor exploration; during dinner, they'll dine with the kids in an adjoining room.

This service is available for children ages 3–12, with limited capacity. Out-of-town guests will take priority, and then we are happy to extend the service to local guests if spots remain.

Where can I find your registry?

We don't have one; the fact that you're making this trip is truly gift enough. That said, if you'd like to contribute something, we'll add honeymoon fund details to this page closer to the date.

Dress Code

Formal, but not black tie.

For women, it's the perfect opportunity to wear a long dress. But leave the stilettos in the states! The venue's terrain spans cobble stone, gravel, grass, and tile. Save your feet and don't bother with high heels, or at least make sure it's a chunky heel.

For men, we suggest a suit and tie.
